Videos: Oasis of the Seas Dry Docking

13 Oct 2014

On 30 September 2014, the world’s largest cruise ship, “Oasis of the Seas”, arrived at the Keppel Verolme shipyard in Rotterdam for routine maintenance and upgrades.

The scope of the work included the replacement of one engine, maintenance of azipods and bow thrusters, and the painting of the hull. Oasis of the Seas will also be getting new dining and entertainment options, as well as the addition of the new staterooms.

The Oasis of the Seas is equipped with six Wärtsilä V46 marine diesel engines, including three 16-cylinder common rail engines and three similar 12-cylinder versions, generating more than 96 MW of power. The vessel is also equipped with four 5.5 MW Wärtsilä transverse thrusters, with a combined power output of 22 MW.

The 360 meter Oasis of the Seas was delivered in 2009 from STX Europe’s shipyard in Turku, Finland – now majority part of Germany’s Meyer Werft. At 225,000 gross tons it is the world’s largest cruise ship, capable of carrying 5,400 passengers and over 2,300 crew.

The ship is expected to depart for the North Sea on Tuesday
